M&T Bank Remediation Project Manager III in Buffalo, New York

Overview:

This position is responsible for managing remediation projects associated with bank regulatory findings. Regulatory Affairs is assigned as the controlling area for all bank supervisory findings across the organization and ensures that remediation owners and other stakeholders remediate such findings timely and completely. The project manager, working under the Remediation Manager, is responsible for executing the established firmwide processes for managing remediation throughout the lifecycle of a finding, leveraging established policies and procedures. The project manager manages high priority regulatory projects affecting multiple businesses or functional areas. Manages changes to project scope, schedule and costs using appropriate verification techniques to keep the project plan accurate, updated, reflective of authorized project changes as defined in the remediation plan, and facilitate acceptance.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead and direct high priority regulatory projects impacting one or more businesses or functions, or complex projects affective multiple businesses or functional areas, often requiring considerable resources and high levels of functional integration from initiation to close. Ensure familiarity with scope of finding and remediation objectives and establish clear roles and responsibilities for project team members. Projects may be of a technical and/or non-technical nature.

  • Learn and follow the remediation process associated with regulatory findings. Provide expertise regarding the remediation process and ensure that stakeholders understand their roles and responsibilities.

  • Work with Finding and Remediation owners to develop Remediation Project Plan, forecast and schedule. Work with stakeholders to record detailed project requirements, constraints and assumptions to establish project deliverables, using requirement-gathering techniques (e.g. planning sessions, brainstorming, focus groups) and the associated supervisory letters and guidance.

  • Ensure plans for assigned remediation projects include work breakdown, project organization chart, cost/budget and communication, risk, quality, and resource plans.

  • Communicate project plans to affected parties to ensure a common understanding, set expectations and align stakeholders and project team members.

  • Ensure execution of tasks defined in the project plan to achieve the project goals. Execute all parts of the project plan. Monitor and control project work including change controls.

  • Work with stakeholders to ensure regulatory findings are understood by the organization and that remediation is successfully planned, executed, monitored, reported, and completed as required. Report status and escalate issues as necessary to the Remediation Manager and other oversight committees.

  • Communicate with regulators regarding remediation to obtain any required approvals and to ensure proper feedback and transparency throughout the lifecycle of a finding.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

  • Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies.

  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.

  • Implement approved actions and workarounds required to mitigate project risk events.

  • Improve project team performance by building team cohesiveness, leading, mentoring, training and motivating to facilitate cooperation, ensure project efficiency and boost morale.

Supervisory/ Managerial Responsibilities:

Contributes to technical/professional direction for a discipline

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 4 years’ proven project management experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 8 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 4 years’ project management experience.

Proficiency with personal computers as well as pertinent software packages.

Education and Experience Preferred:

Direct experience with remediation efforts related to prudential/banking agency findings.

Experience working in bank supervision at a regulatory agency.

Experience in audit or in a second line challenge function.

Advanced project management skills.

Demonstrated leadership skills.
