Kennedy Valve Co. is a subsidiary of McWane Inc. Kennedy Valve is a gray and ductile iron foundry and computerized machining and assembly operation. We supply fire hydrants and valves to the water works and fire suppression industries. We have been manufacturing these products in Elmira, New York, for over 125 years.

    Kennedy Valve is looking for results oriented, innovative, and creative problem solvers focused on achieving results in a fast-paced environment. We are looking for hands-on, quick decision makers with mechanical aptitude that can perform well in changing conditions.

SUMMARY:

The Operations Manager Trainee accepts delegated tasks from a manager (s) while in the company sponsored training program. The goal of the program is to prepare the individual for future Senior Level operations management positions. Through this program the members will learn all facets of the business. The trainee will go through a department rotation to gain perspective on Production, Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety, Engineering, Research and Development, Sales, and Human Resources. The trainee will be evaluated for scope and understanding of department functions before rotating. This will include both first and second shift availability.

Responsibilities

BASIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervision - Directing of team member activities concerned with production as needed. To include Engineering technology, production methods and procedures, standards, and machine and equipment capabilities and analyzing workforce requirements, performance appraisals and provide coaching and guidance to all operations team members.

Financial Accounting and Reporting - Calculation of standards, scrap, KPI's and budgeting processes. Reviews production costs and product quality and makes modifications as needed to maintain and enhance profitable operation of division.

Work with and Understanding of Management Responsibilities - Production Control, Accounting, Quality Control, Engineering, Environmental, Safety, Human Resources and SPC.

Coordinate of Department Activities - Balancing production activities along with procurement, maintenance, production planning, safety, and quality control activities to obtain optimal use of employee and equipment resources.

Review and Analyze Reporting Data - Determine causes on non-conformity with production specifications and operating or production problems to include variance/financial non-conformance.

Process Improvement - Communicate and implement methods and procedures to eliminate operation problems and improve product quality.

Plant Policies/Work Rules/Safety Compliance/Union Contract - Effectively know, understand, and evaluate all when making directional decisions for the plant/business.

Remove Production Constraints - Allocate human and equipment resources and direct production employees to attain all established goals. Remove waste and constraints from the production process to improve efficiencies.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in engineering/engineering management, General Management, Business Administration, or related field required. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience will be considered.

Three (3) years' related on-the-job experience required, preferably in heavy manufacturing.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Standing, walking, squatting, lifting up to 50lbs regularly, ability to work different hours/shifts.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Exposed to elements, such as cold, heat, noise, dust, odors, fumes, etc.

Work time is spent on the manufacturing floor, Engineer/QA Lab, and office setting.
