Purpose of Job
The Commercial Global Sourcing Director is responsible to direct, instruct and supervise the procurement of services and materials, such as Sales and Marketing, Logistics, including distribution, lab services, MRO, Capital, Corporate and general services for global Science & Diagnostics.
Responsible for administration in this area including:
Change & project management of organizational transformations.
Annual savings plan development and execution
Leadership presentations and proposals
Reporting of financials, current and forecasted
Opportunity identification
Develop spend visibility
Drive program governance
Personnel development and management
Development and implementation of policies, governance protocols, systems & controls as well as best practices.
This role is responsible for identifying and delivering value chain optimization opportunities and ensures that the team acts as the first line of escalation on issues between suppliers and the business, operating the supplier relationship management process with suppliers.
The Commercial Global Sourcing Director will provide leadership for activity management of implementation of a sourcing program across the globe. Will manage the implementation of new processes and procedures, governance and all activities related to change management. The capability to lead and interact with leadership to drive this change will be vital to the role.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Deliver savings through actively challenging vendor pricing, revising specifications, initiating cost savings opportunities and implementing new negotiating strategies by securing price, capacity & service levels.
Develop and deliver business plans in conjunction with Commercial strategy and Business Owner strategies by applying a wide range of sourcing tools (e.g. negotiation, e-procurement, strategic collaboration, etc.)
Manage, coach and lead a team of associates, support them in their developments, ensure they have clear objectives and that they deliver them
Drive & manage the team engagement
Ensures compliance with proper procedures, policies, systems and controls
Identifies and manages supplier collaboration initiatives (ie continuous improvement programs, clear KPI settings, Service level agreements, process optimization …)
Ensure effective risk management of the supply base, through robust contracts and monitoring of financial and other KPIs. Implement corrective actions as appropriate.
Manage all related commercial, financial & ethical aspects of projects
Continuous improvement upon the business processes that currently exist through measurement with current best of class analysis and benchmarking exercises.
Coordinate and facilitate the communication process between all functions to ensure the efficient and effective flow of the information required to run the business.
Continually review new processes and Vendor base to ensure new supply opportunities exist.
Establish & maintain relationships with Finance directors, department directors (lab manager, marketing director, sales director, supply chain director and others), and their teams to ensure understanding of their needs and to facilitate the appropriate level of challenge.
Participate in external forums and associations
Carries out supplier performance reviews on a regular basis for in scope categories
Determines when regional strategies are not possible and if a local approach is necessary
Work in collaboration with other region’s buying managers
Influences clients to align with global & regional buying strategy
Education and Experience
10+ years of buying experience.
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
Minimum of 5 years of proven progressive responsibility in Procurement
People management experience

Working Conditions
The associate is regularly required to apply manual dexterity, including hand/wrist flexibility, for computer keyboarding. The associate frequently is required to sit for extended periods of time, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The associate is frequently required to hear and speak in order to use the telephone, make presentations and communicate with people in an office or virtual environment. The associate is occasionally required to sit and stoop, bend, kneel, or crouch. The associate must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
The associate will primarily work in a typical office environment or a remote home office. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The associate will be required to use a computer, spreadsheets, data base management, email, video conferencing and the Internet. The associate is frequently required to use a calculator; fax, copy machine, and phone system. The associate must occasionally use media equipment such as an overhead projector, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Teams. Environment where pets are present.
The Target Pay Range for this position is $165,000 - $200,000 annually. At Mars, pay decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, education, training and budget.
