Job Description

Styles is seeking a reporter to work with desk leadership in expanding how it covers fashion and beauty through best-in-class service journalism. You have a background in fashion reporting, and a vision for how Styles can guide readers to better shopping experiences and products to enhance their lives. You are eager to cover these subjects beyond the runway with healthy doses of both curiosity and skepticism.

This role is new to The Times, so you have an experimental spirit, and experience producing non-traditional digital stories. It requires the ability to collaborate with multiple partners and lead deadline-driven projects.

You will report into the Fashion News Editor, and is a hybrid role based in New York.

Responsibilities:

  • In partnership with desk leadership, develop a strategic roadmap to achieve our goals for first-in-class service journalism

  • Cover the waterfront – build sources in the market to stay on top of new products and announcements, and develop a point of view on what the desk covers

  • Write multiple stories per week, both timely and evergreen, making use of multiple digital formats

  • Respond to news events with service-oriented pieces

  • Work with a team of editors to write engaging headlines, captions and social media posts

  • Collaborate with photo editors and art directors

  • Adhere to Times standards, including stringent conflict-of-interest rules

Basic Qualifications:

  • 10+ years as a digital reporter, focused on fashion, beauty and shopping

  • Ability to write quickly and with authority

  • Experience producing excellent styles journalism

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a newsroom

  • Work with emerging digital formats and interest in learning how to produce new types of digital journalism

  • An interest in beauty

This position is represented by the NewsGuild of NY.

The annual base pay salary for this role is between $111,049.64 and $125,000.00.
