Who will you be working with?

Our best-in-class Remote Monitoring & Diagnostics (RM&D) team delivers value for our customers and creates long-term sustainable value for Wabtec through collaborative business partnership, creative solutioning, strong execution, and stable operations of our application platforms and products.

How will you make a difference?

As a member of the IT group, you will be responsible for implementing product strategies and operations to support business functions and ensure they meet business needs.

What do we want to know about you?

You must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a relevant STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience architecting Oracle Database Solutions.

  • 7+ years of experience building technology solutions.

  • Working knowledge of cloud-native application designs and patterns across relational and NoSQL databases.

  • Design secure, performant, cost-optimized cloud infrastructure architectures leveraging best practices and automation.

  • Experience developing cloud architectures to meet business and technical requirements for new services.

  • Ensure designs address scalability, availability, disaster recovery and other non-functional needs.

  • Understand application team requirements and help leverage platform capabilities.

  • Document architectures and processes and educate platform/application teams.

  • Embed security best practices into all architecture designs and review platform changes.

  • Optimize architectures for cost-efficiency.

  • Monitor and analyze cloud costs/performance to identify optimization opportunities.

  • Collaborate with teams to deliver architectures that are secure, cost-effective, and meet requirements.

  • Expertise in Datawarehouse/Data lakes

  • Expertise in PL/SQL, SQL development.

  • Expertise on Shell Scripting

  • Facilitate collaboration between teams to deliver broadly impactful technologies.

  • Support the Product Manager in driving new architecture initiatives through Agile methodologies.

  • Influence application teams regarding the use of secure, modern technologies through education.

  • Research and evaluation of emerging technologies and trends in the industry and market to assist in project development and operational support activities

What will your typical day look like?

  • As a part of a cross-functional IT team, the Sr Data Operations Engineer will create and maintain all databases required for development, testing, and production usage.

  • Performs ongoing tuning of all RMD Databases

  • Plans and implements backup and recovery for RMD databases.

  • Performance monitoring – managing performance of the applications and managing parameters in order to provide fast responses to front-end users

  • Security and User Management of the databases - establish the needs of users and monitoring user access and security

  • Data Modelling Expertise - conceptual design for a planned database, refining the physical design to meet system storage requirements

  • Data Governance Expertise – Managing Standards, data security, governance

  • Database Backup/Recovery Management Expertise - develop, manage and test back-up and recovery plans including disaster recovery plans

  • Expertise in working with application development - communicate regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security

  • Implements and enforces security for all RMD databases.

  • Use knowledge of RMD internals to help develop and implement application design and coding use of the database.

  • Proactively identify, design, and implement process improvements like automating manual processes, optimizing data flow, increase scalability etc.

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest features and best practices in Oracle Database administration

  • Follow existing database runbooks, create and maintain new runbooks for new and improved processes

  • Provide technical support to the application development team.

  • Train other Data Operations Engineers as a Database SME.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with external vendors, including negotiation of contracts, monitoring performance and execution, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals, conduct research and analysis to identify market trends, competitive landscapes, and growth opportunities. Develop and maintain strategic plans aligned with company goals.

Work Environment:

  • The employee will normally work in a temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment. Any disagreeable conditions are generally absent
