Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Leads the Aquatics Unit in the Division of Animal Resources (DAR) by providing oversight and management of daily care of all aquatic's species, including husbandry, water chemistry, and the management and optimization of live feed cultures.

  • Trouble shoots and manages the aquatic systems, RO water systems, Tritone feeding robots, tank washers and administers service contracts.

  • Communicates with both vendors and university servicers to provide appropriate service, maintenance, and repairs.

  • Responsible for program of system alarm response and management.

  • On-call duties are necessary and will be scheduled on a rotating basis.

  • Manages inventory, supplies, and activity logs.

  • Meets with investigators to guide new projects/study design and provides information as needed for the recruitment of faculty requiring aquatic species in their research.

  • Oversees quality control/assurance programs related to laboratory test methodology, equipment and supplies to include import/quarantine (with health monitoring) and may include breeding.

  • Maintains a high level of service by staff through training and orientation.

  • Manages personnel.

  • Provides for content to develop and maintain Core website.

  • Demonstrates and trains others in proper techniques and use of equipment.

  • Responsible for unit SOP development and management.

  • Collaborates with other DAR units to provide quality assurance; manage clinical cases.

  • Responsible for the selection, implementation, and use of a fish management software system, including DAR IT in the selection and development process.

  • Review core unit rates to include per diem structure and implement accurate census process, including data collection for rate determination.

  • Provides projections for staffing, operating expenses, and service volumes.

  • Participates in strategic planning related to the core's equipment and services.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g. biology, animal science, aquatics, aquatic sciences, aquaculture) and five years of related professional level experience, one of which includes management of or engagement at a high level with the management of aquatics systems.

OR

  • A master's degree and three years of related professional level experience, one of which includes management of (or engagement at a high level with the management of) aquatics systems. Proficient in aquatic husbandry, knowledge of equipment, and techniques required to support aquatics unit services. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
