About this role

Web Tech Engineering

The Web Tech Engineering team is responsible for providing a solid software technology platform serving 134 public-facing websites of our company under the blackrock.com and ishares.com domains. These websites serve around 4 million individual visits per month, providing comprehensive data about our investment funds on 160 000 so-called product pages, enable roughly 1500 updates of web content and 10000 document uploads daily, as well as provide authentication for more than 600 000 registered users globally.

As an Engineering Director, you will:

  • Lead a team of developers to build our investment models data platform

  • Oversee the team’s agile delivery process ensuring completion of sprint tasks, adherence to the team’s quality standards, and successful deployment to production.

  • Provide high quality technical input to team discussions on system design, seeing those efforts all the way through to final delivery.

  • Manage the career growth of members of the team

  • Be a role model, mentor the junior developers and contribute to inclusive team culture.

  • Work with the business stakeholders in defining the requirements.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's/Master’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a similar field.

  • 10+ years experience developing enterprise level applications using Java/Python/SQL

  • Experience in designing or developing a data platform using BigData technologies would be preferred.

  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills with an ability to pick up new concepts quickly.

  • Demonstrable experience using modern software engineering tools such as git, maven, unit testing and integration testing tools, mocking frameworks.

  • Domain expertise in financial services and products is an added advantage.

  • Friendly, positive and can-do attitude

  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills

  • Expertise working with project managers, technical leads and analysts across the software lifecycle; understand systems requirements, design, development, testing, deployment and documentation

  • Strong teamwork, interpersonal skills and time management abilities

  • Proficiency in building and passionate about creating great products that solve big problems

  • Preferable to have some experience with Microsoft Azure
