The Opportunity

WestRock has embarked on a multi-year business systems transformation initiative. This SAP S4 roll out is aligned to corporate objectives of becoming the world’s best paper and packaging company.

The Data Refinery Manager position is a strategic part of the Data Refinery team, which is responsible for delivering and sustaining data transformation and governance for the SAP S4 roll out. This role will serve as a key team member and trusted partner for future state program delivery.

Position Summary

This role will:

  • Develop subject matter expertise on the WestRock business - our products, our customers, markets served, and so on

  • Provide overall management support for Refinery, such as establishing and sustaining the in-take process for stakeholder use cases and data requirements; ensuring stakeholder sign off documentation; maintaining data quality metric tracking; tracking critical teams’ training attendance; etc.

  • Partner with MDM and Refinery leads to capture and status weekly work plans. Track closure metrics against program milestones, to proactively raise dependencies, cross-team coordination areas, and any risks.

  • Maintain MDM and Refinery coordination with the PMO. For example, incorporate deployment updates into relevant team material to ensure consistent messaging and references.

  • Be an active listener in stakeholder forums, including Lunch & Learns sessions and SME Network calls. Capture and synthesize stakeholder questions and concerns. Use this as input for future forum agenda planning, to foster an effective and engaged stakeholder community.

  • Partner with OCM, MDM and Refinery team members to prepare content for these ongoing forums. Ensure slides and reference materials are concise and clear for non-technical audiences, and include examples relevant to the business.

  • Partner with OCM to develop an online presence and knowledge repository for MDM and Refinery content. Develop an FAQ with clear, non-technical answers to questions raised in ongoing forums.

  • Provide early administrative support and Refinery connectedness with the Data Catalog project.

  • Partner with team members to provide ad hoc data and business process analysis, as needed.

How you will impact WestRock:

  • Provide management support for data transformation roadmap delivery, including ongoing data quality oversight, steward communications, training delivery, and data cleansing remediation.

  • Ensure ongoing communications and effective content preparation for our user community and SME network that spans business, functional, and program team members.

  • Support ad hoc data and process analysis to problem solve and drive path forward for ongoing needs

What you need to succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative Business discipline such as Accounting, Economics, or Finance; Industrial Engineering; or an equivalent analytical-type subject from an accredited university.

  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years of experience in corporate or business roles with demonstrated administration responsibilities; experience in data analysis or business process roles preferred.

  • Process-oriented problem solver, with an interest in process, data and systems, and a demonstrated ability to ‘think outside the box’.

  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively in a global, matrixed, cross-functional environment about complex subjects in a succinct, fact-based way. Must be able to articulate how strong data management processes and solutions directly enable business capabilities and results.

  • Proven ability to partner effectively with technology teams on data solution planning and delivery.

  • Experience and knowledge of data stewardship and governance practices is strongly preferred.

  • Cross-functional change management and communications experience is preferred.

  • Paper, packaging, or manufacturing industry experience is a significant plus.

  • SAP experience is a significant plus.

  • Self-directed, team player, and results-oriented.

  • Strong attention to detail, with ability to balance multiple priorities.
