Description

As Web Designer/Digital Communications Specialist, participates in communicating and advancing the work of Emory's Office of the Provost to support the university's teaching and research mission.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contributes to a wide variety of projects and platforms while serving as the primary designer and developer for the Office's websites and broader digital communications.

  • Supports the development and implementation of a digital communications strategy for Office of the Provost-managed websites that aligns with the Office's and Emory's broader communications strategy.

  • Designs, develops, and maintains Office of the Provost websites to ensure user-friendly, appealing communications in support of division mission and goals.

  • Shepherds design and review process from concept wireframes to final executed products.

  • Ensures projects incorporate all stakeholder requirements; employs best practices in user interface, navigation, usability, accessibility, search engine optimizations, and work in all browsers on all devices.

  • Leads quality assurance testing with support from other Communications colleagues.

  • Designs, develops, and assists in disseminating mass digital communications, including emails, newsletters, and social media.

  • Designs and produces graphics, templates, icons, and other digital artwork for related communications projects.

  • Oversees regular content updates and maintenance on designated websites.

  • Develops and implements site maintenance plans and schedules.

  • Monitors websites for outdated information, expired pages, broken links and technical issues.

  • Provides CMS training and support for unit-based content managers.

  • Sunsets outdated content/sites as appropriate.

  • Maintains image library, branded templates and logos for the Office of the Provost.

  • Assists in content development and visual management for the sites managed by the Provost office, social media sites, and other assigned online accounts.

  • Works with stakeholders to determine project schedules and ensures timely delivery of final solutions.

  • Updates team and stakeholders on project status and process.

  • Develops and reports on key metrics to continually improve the performance and effectiveness of digital communications.

  • Collaborates effectively with internal teams to understand and outline key project requirements, obtain necessary content and materials, and develop solutions that meet the needs of both internal teams and site visitors.

  • Collaborates with the central Emory Communications & Marketing team to ensure alignment with university platforms, protocols and standards.

  • Collaborates with external vendors on projects as needed.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree and two years of experience in the design and development of websites or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and project management skills.

  • Preferred qualifications include experience with email management software, such as Cascade, Drupal, and Salesforce; advanced working knowledge of HTML and CSS; graphic design experience, including advanced working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and Canva; email design and development experience in Salesforce; and an understanding of UX/UI design and website usability and SEO.

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
