University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) School of Social Work is seeking an Executive Director (Institute Administrator).Reporting to the Dean of the University of Maryland School of Social Work, the Executive Director (aka the Administrator) will provide critical leadership for The Institute for Implementation & Innovation (The Institute).* The mission of the Institute is to support state and local governments and organizations in implementing and sustaining effectives systems and practices that best meet the needs of children, youth, and their families involved in public systems. The incumbent will serve as a key liaison between administrators, faculty and staff within the School of Social Work (SSW), the University of Maryland Baltimore and across the partner institutions who are engaged in research, evaluation, workforce development, technical assistance, coaching, and training related to child and family well-being and the systems who serve them. The Institute Executive Director will have significant opportunities to collaboratively refine The Institute’s mission and initiatives through dialogue with the SSW leadership, affiliates, and stakeholders together with key faculty and leaders across many different departments and schools at the University of Maryland Baltimore along with scholars and partners around the State of Maryland. The Institute Executive Director will engage with students and faculty at the SSW, as well as leading external partners including practitioners, State of Maryland policymakers, community-based organizations, civil organizations, in Maryland and around the world. Specific duties for the incumbent include but are not limited to research center management; strategic positioning and growth of The Institute; interacting closely with leaders on campus for strategic alignment and growth. · The Institute Executive Director will work with researchers to expand external funding, collaborate with academic, government, industry partners, and private and public organizations to grow and sustain a robust research center and education portfolio, while developing initiatives and activities to enhance the visibility of The Institute and the School of Social Work. The Institute Executive Director will work to maintain and cultivate strategic partnerships with stakeholders, collaborate with external partners, and represent the Institute at conferences to expand reach and influence. /Direct Reports:/ The Institute Executive Director is expected to work closely with the Dean of the School of Social Work, Principal Investigators from contracts and grants, and the SSW’s Business and Research Infrastructure. This position involves the exercise of discretion and judgment, with the authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance that affect the Institute. The Institute Executive Director will supervise the Business Operations Director, and other key research and program personnel at the Institute. /Additional Duties:/ · Provides strategic leadership and vision to a diverse team of faculty and staff involved in review, approval, negotiation and administration of research, educational, and public service proposals, grants, cooperative agreements, contracts, sub awards. · Creates and maintains relationships with other SSW/UMB units, state, and Federal agencies in pursuit of the overall Institute mission. _Minimum Qualifications:_ Education:Master’s degree or equivalent in a data or social science-related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Ph.D. preferred. Experience:Ten (10) years spent progressively building a background in administrative and financial operations preferably in applied research (qualitative, quantitative, evaluation), advocacy and/or community engagement, nonprofit programming. Supervisory Experience:Five (5) years of experience at a management/leadership level. Other:No substitution of experience for minimum education requirement. Financial disclosure reporting required by State of Maryland Ethics Committee. _Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:_ · Prior experience serving as an Executive Director for a research center is preferred. · Desirable candidates will be widely known and respected within the State of Maryland government agencies and the academic community. An excellent reputation and an extensive established network in relevant research and policy communities. · Substantial successful management and leadership experience; a track record of innovation, program leadership, fundraising, and program building · Demonstrated expertise with program building within a leading academic institution. · Academic background and recognized expertise in related areas of child welfare research · Experience with grant management activities, including grant writing experience. · Strong understanding and commitment to higher education, faculty, staff, and student issues. · The ability to work with dynamic and diverse groups/populations. · Leadership experience in academic and/or government agencies · Demonstrated expertise in building collaborations between academia, industrial and/or governmental agencies. · Outstanding verbal and written communication skills /Competencies:/ · Advocacy · Research · Program Development and Evaluation · Organization and Strategic Planning · Policy Leadership Hiring Range:$178,000 - $197,500 per year (Commensurate with education and experience) UMB is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
