University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) School of Pharmacy (SOP) is currently seekinga Simulation Educatorin the Department of Practice, Sciences, and HealthOutcomes Research. The Simulation Educator will support the simulation space for the UMB Physician Assistant Program located in the School of Pharmacy, and other related SOP simulation spaces. Responsibilities consist of serving as an educator of simulation-based training and evaluation, designing, and conducting training protocols and assessments for students, and identifying and training individuals to serve as standardized patients. The Simulation Educator will also manage the maintenance, service requirements, and operational records of simulation equipment, e.g., models, task trainers, high-definition simulation manikins, and computer/video/sound equipment, etc.), and provide data reports to the participating entities. The successful candidate for this position will be able to describe and demonstrate their commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness as well as how they contribute to a respectful, positive workplace. __ PRIMARY DUTIES: * Develop and execute training scenarios and assessments relevant to emergency codes and SOP's needs including but not limited to emergency situations, sentinel events, surgical and medical skills, and age-appropriate interventions across the lifespan. * Collaborate with faculty educators and other stakeholders on the development and delivery of simulation and standardized patient activities for training and assessment. * Manage, operate, and maintain simulation technologic equipment and task trainers including but not limited to computer-based systems, video equipment, high-definition and static manikins, and screen-based simulation/virtual reality surgical simulators. * Instruct faculty, staff, and students on the use of simulation and standardized patient best practices related to assessment and feedback. * Participate in professional development to enhance teaching skills, scholarship, and service. Maintain proficiency in existing and emerging technologies by participating in trainings and conferences. * Contribute to the development of policies, procedures, and best practices for operational efficiency of the Simulation program/space. * Deliver simulation instruction to professional students to enhance their intercultural communication, leadership, health science research, and quality improvement skillsets. * Coordinate scheduling of events in the simulation spaces to accommodate the School of Pharmacy and PA Program as prioritized participants. * In collaboration with faculty, assist in quality curriculum design and delivery, discipline, program and course content and continuity, currency, and relevance based on information such as emerging medical practice changes in the discipline, instructional effectiveness data, current or future performance requirements, feasibility, and costs. Collaborate with faculty to assist in the analysis of and evaluation of courses. * Identify and train individuals to serve as standardized patients for simulation experiences that require live interaction. * Train standardized patients on providing feedback to students. Ensure interrater reliability among standardized patients. * Provide summary reports for each participant following scheduled events, as needed. * Perform literature search and review on simulation topics to support events and make them relevant. May participate in scholarly work in conjunction with Pharmacy School policies. * Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:__ Education:Bachelor’s degree in education, nursing, health sciences, technology, or related field. Master's degree preferred. Experience:Five (5) years of experience in a field related to the simulation, with at least two (2) years in clinical education. Certification/Licensure:Physicians and nurses must be registered and licensed in a related healthcare field. Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) certification or Certified Healthcare Simulation Operation Specialist (CHSOS) preferred. Other:No substitution or experience for minimum education requirement. __ KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:__ Knowledge of position requirements. Knowledge of all applicable requirements, regulations, and laws. Skill in effective use of applicable technology/systems. Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently.
