DAI is leading the delivery of technical assistance EU funded projects and is seeking Senior Business Development Managers with demonstrated successful track record. The BD team is organised around 4 thematic areas, Green Growth, Economic Growth, Good Governance, and Social Development. The DAI EU unit is focused on the EU and EIB as clients and expanding to other donors.This will be a full-time, permanent role based in Barcelona (Spain) or Brussels (Belgium). Senior Business Development Managers will lead and manage a pipeline of various projects.

Key tasks, duties and responsibilities:

Business Development

  • Lead a challenging pipeline of new business opportunities.

  • Accountable for a BD target under her/his responsibility.

  • Identification and negotiation of commercial arrangements with consortium partners, experts and advisors.

  • Leading BD teams allocated to each BD opportunity.

  • Bring and develop BD networks, consortium partners and Key experts.

Portfolio Management and Planning

  • Develop pipelines and lead prepositioning activities.

  • Managing workloads and projects deadlines.

  • Lead the preparation of expressions of interest.

  • Lead the delivery of proposals technical and financial proposals using DAI's process, methodologies and tools.

  • Ensure the quality of technical proposals.

  • Ensure that financial proposals meet expected financial return.

  • Undertake prospection missions.

  • Ensure compliance.

Bid Preparation

  • Following an accurate understanding of the Terms of Reference, ensure the design of the technical proposals.

  • Write relevant specific sections of the technical proposals.

  • Support the recruitment of Key Experts.

  • Prepare budgets and financial offers.

Mentoring Teams

  • Provide mentoring and build capacities to team members.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Relevant degree in economics, public sector administration, sustainable development, international cooperation, or other topics related to economic growth and good governance.

  • More than 5 years as Business Development Management for the acquisition of donor funded projects with experience of at least 2 years working with the EU.

  • More than 10 years’ experience in the development cooperation sector will be an advantage.

  • Exceptional time management skills - ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple stakeholder expectations, work independently and as part of a team within tight deadlines across various time zones.

  • Proven track record in winning new business.

  • At least 2 years’ experience in project implementation will be considered an advantage.

  • Teamwork – support and work collaboratively within the business development team as knowledge sharing is a crucial element.

  • Ideally having the experience of managing a team of at least five people.

  • In-depth knowledge of EU procedures and/or other donors and project cycle management and Log frame management.

  • Excellent capacity to develop networks.

  • Strong organisational skills and capacity to learn and adapt quickly to new work processes.

  • Strong analytical skills and reasoning skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal, and both written and verbal communication skills – keeping stakeholders informed.

  • Sensitivity in dealing with confidential information.

  • Self-motivated, goal oriented with a sense of urgency and the ability to support the opportunity to grow.

  • Proactive, assertive, action oriented, and action-oriented with strong intellectual agility and ability.

  • Fluent and French and/or Spanish.

  • Available to travel 25% per cent of the time.

  • Proficient MS Office user.
