Amazon Principal Technical Program Manager, European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) in Berlin, Germany

AWS is set to introduce the inaugural European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), marking a significant development in utility computing (UC). To spearhead this initiative, we are actively seeking experienced Technical Program Managers with a strong background in program management and working with Software Engineers. As part of the AWS Managed Operations team, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-availability AWS services, including EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock, exclusively for EU customers. European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) is a part of AWS Utility Computing (UC)

AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

Eligibility requirement

  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required.

  • Successful applicants must have the legal right to work in Germany.

  • Amazon will provide relocation support for successful applicants relocating within the European Union.

Key job responsibilities

• Lead the end-to-end program management of the high-impact ESC initiative, driving cross-functional collaboration and delivering against strategic milestones.

• Assume technical ownership of the ESC program, providing architectural guidance, ensuring quality standards, and enabling innovative cloud solutions.

• Develop and track KPIs/SLAs to measure success, synthesize data-driven insights, and report progress to executive stakeholders.

• Cultivate a high-performing, risk-taking culture, empower teams, and act as a thought leader to evangelize and drive the ESC roadmap.

A day in the life

As a Principal TPM, you will own and execute programs for the EU Sovereign Cloud. This will include discovering relevant areas, going deep to understand their metrics and technology, and producing monthly artifacts that will be reviewed at the with senior leadership at executive monthly business reviews. In this role you will work closely with the software development and product teams to deliver high quality, scalable products deployed around the world. You will collaborate with the product teams to deliver the best product with most efficient use of resources and technologies. You will work with all the stakeholders to assemble project teams, assign responsibilities, identify resources needed, and develop schedules to ensure timely completion of projects by meeting project milestones. You will assess risks, anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management, make tradeoffs, balance the business needs versus technical constraints and encourage risk-taking behaviour to maximize business benefit. Successful candidates will have a technical background, be detail driven and have excellent problem-solving abilities.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience managing technical programs across cross-functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules

  • Experience working directly with engineering teams

  • Experience owning/driving roadmap strategy and definition

  • Experience in project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in architectural design or system design independent of an architect

  • Experience defining KPI's/SLA's used to scale the businesses and provide reporting to senior leadership.

  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.

  • Experience with AWS platforms, services and design patterns.
