Sterile Processing Tech II

Under supervision, prioritizes, plans and coordinates daily cleaning, processing and distribution assignment in order to make the most efficient use of surgical instrumentation and to provide support of patient care services and optimize patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains surgical instruments through appropriate decontamination, assembly, and sterilization parameters.

  • Participates in Infection Control through appropriate and proper monitoring of Sterilization process and equipment. Processes biological indicators (BI's) in appropriate loads; initiates BI record and incubates BI's within 2 hours of processing; assures that BI's are observed and recorded daily; reports positive readings and initiates recalls; reports all discrepancies to manager.

  • Decontamination: Prioritizes cleaning function; sorts heat sensitive from heat stable instruments; manually cleans heat sensitive instruments; maintains detergents and lubricants; maintains a clean environment.

  • Instrument Set Assembly: Assembles set according to count sheet; indicates missing instruments on count sheet; indicates missing instruments on outside of set; labels set with name on count sheet; applies correct indicator tape according to type of sterilization; initials count sheet and outside label.

  • Precepts for departmental orientation. Orders supplies according to predetermined par levels. Communicates instrument shortages to department manager using the shortage log. Replaces missing instruments from existing stock.

  • Maintains daily shift report. Monitors progress of shift report making sure all information is passed to following unit. Receives shift report from outgoing shift.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Experience: One year sterile processing minimum required.

  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) required.

Pay Range

$15.49 - $21.30 /hour
