As a Principal Design Engineer for Cytiva you will spearhead the design and development of cutting-edge hardware and disposable devices. Your role will involve cross-functional collaboration and engagement with executive leadership to ensure seamless communication. From conception to manufacturing transfer, you will oversee the entire development process, managing specifications, detailed design, and industrialization. Your responsibilities will include problem-solving, risk reduction, and potentially contributing to intellectual property development. Operating within industry standards, you will also drive innovation to deliver high-quality, novel products.

This position is part of the R&D department located in Hoegaarden, Belgium and will be hybrid. At Cytiva, our vision is, to advance future therapeutics from discovery to delivery.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Lead design processes for projects involving plastics and stainless-steel fabrication, ensuring adherence to fundamental design principles, quality and regulatory requirements, and industry standards while exemplifying exceptional CAD skills to create detailed and innovative designs. Incorporate both individual expertise and collaborative input from cross-functional teams.

  • Demonstrate adept planning and time management skills to meet project deadlines independently and as the leading part within a project team, while architecting product development and system verification & validation strategies. Manage and lead defect resolution, trace matrix, and support design transfer.

  • Lead requirement management and technical scope definition across multi-site, cross-functional teams from product inception through commercial launch.

  • Cultivate a creative problem-solving approach, consistently contributing inventive ideas and solutions to overcome design challenges aligned with the long-term product and technology development roadmap.

  • Maintain transparency and open communications in project activities, interfacing broadly with peers and stakeholders across departments globally and with external partners. Clearly convey complex concepts, resolve problems, address conflicting requirements, and communicate business demands and technical risks/issues. Energize and motivate your teammates, inspiring them to work toward the project goals.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related field, with a long-standing track record of direct experience in Design Engineering, including designing and launching products, and proven experience leading technical resources and teams.

  • Broad and extensive knowledge of fundamental mechanical engineering principles, materials, manufacturing processes, and tolerancing, with a proven track record of successful designs in plastics, stainless steel, and/or sheet metal.

  • Expertise in using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor) to create precise and optimized designs and drawings, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.

  • Demonstrated proactive and creative mindset, showcasing a passion for continuous learning, and keeping up to date with industry trends, new technologies, and innovative design methodologies.

  • Experience with regulatory standards and requirements, along with proficiency in statistical analysis, Design of Experiments (DOE), impact assessment, root cause analysis, and risk management/Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
