General Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field with five years of experience in a related field required. Experience in higher education preferred. Demonstrated success in closing several $25K+ gifts preferred. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:

The SHSU Office of University Advancement is seeking a Director of Development to join their team. Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Development, the Director of Development will focus on identifying and cultivating prospects with an emphasis on gifts of $25,000 and above.

The Director will assess the interests and desires of these prospects and work to align their philanthropy with the various divisions and departments within the College of Arts and Media and College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Primary Responsibilities (Staff Positions Only):

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Builds an active portfolio of 30 – 50 prospective donors. Engages in qualification, strategy development, relationship building, and closing of gifts at $25,000+ for the College of Arts and Media and College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Participates in goal setting, proposal preparation, strategy development, and stewardship as required for donors in the portfolio. Successfully and consistently delivers funding proposals to prospective and current donors. Effectively works with, communicates with, and collaborates with faculty, academic leaders, and other development colleagues to develop campus-wide funding opportunities and reaching goals. Maintains appropriate electronic documentation on a timely basis, including engagement activities, proposal tracking, contact reports, donor strategies, and forecasting. Demonstrates an ability to execute successful full-cycle donor strategy. Willingness to collaborate and work as part of a team Performs other duties as assigned.
