Overview of the Department/Section

As a group, MUFG has been involved in aviation for more than 30 years, across a wide spectrum of financial solutions. The familiarity with the aviation industry, size of MUFG's balance sheet and international presence, as well as our extensive expertise in capital markets, act as key differentiators in our ability to provide financial services to the aviation industry.

MUFG’s aviation Finance team provides financial services to Airlines, Operating Lessors, and other aircraft investors and owners, relating to the acquisition, ownership and leasing of aircraft, including but not limited to arranging, financing and distribution of full or limited recourse secured debt instruments. Our award-winning aviation team combines in-depth industry knowledge with solid relationships across the sector.

Main Purpose of the Role

Manage a portfolio of aviation transactions and undertake all necessary credit and portfolio monitoring activities. Identify potential business opportunities from within the existing portfolio and assist new business initiatives and projects as required, including the refinancing of existing assets and onboarding of new clients. Where applicable, undertake the lead client facing role when acting as Facility Agent, Security Trustee and/or Account Bank.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake semi-annual/annual reviews of assigned aviation facilities, including but not limited to, LTV analysis, facility updates/summary, loan outstanding update and underlying asset analysis.

  • Prepare the Borrower Rating (“BR”) analysis and annual Aircraft Finance Rating (“AFR”) for airlines and lessors’ Borrower Rating Review process.

  • Spread financials of the airlines and lessors in order to determine indicative BR rating.

  • Review financial reports/transaction information as and when received with a view to determining the appropriateness of the current rating / risk level.

  • Prepare and process waiver/client requests on a timely basis by effectively managing the internal credit process.

  • Monitor loan covenants for assigned client on a monthly basis.

  • Co-ordinate and manage refinancing’s, restructuring, prepayment/payments, extensions and amendments of aviation transactions.

  • Undertake any ad-hoc exercises/projects/reporting as assigned.

  • Assist with credit facilities related administrative tasks such as account opening, KYC and fee settlement.

  • Ensure that internal monitoring systems are kept up to date, especially loan and collateral information.

  • Maintain Facility Agent/Security Trustee/ Account Bank responsibilities efficiently and accurately, in concoction with relevant internal teams.

  • Work with colleagues in the Credit functions to ensure an effective dialogue on risk related issues and to maintain a culture of cooperation. Elevate any potential issues to Senior Management at an early stage so that these can be dealt with appropriately.

  • Develop and maintain a strong network of partnerships with internal teams across the wider MUFG organisation.

  • Liaise with clients at a counterpart level building strong and lasting relationship, particularly with regards to the Agency, Account Bank and Security Trustee activities.

  • Contribute to internal projects designed to improve the MUFG’s performance.

Work Experience

Essential:

  • Some experience and knowledge within banking (particularly in structure finance or investment banking), aviation legal or aircraft leasing.

  • Good knowledge of loan documentation and lending processes in front / middle office.

  • Knowledge of the Aviation sector and strong interest in aviation.

Skills and Experience

Functional / Technical Competencies:

Essential

  • Willingness to learn credit, risk management, market and legal aspects of structured finance.

  • Strong Excel, analytical and numeracy skills.

  • Willingness to work with banking systems and financial models.

  • Some knowledge of all standard banking products.

  • Good problem-solving skills.

Education / Qualifications:

  • Degree Level and/or relevant industry expertise.
