Job Description

SAP Data Migration Analyst

18 month FTC

Your role:

This role is a once in a career opportunity to play a lead role on a transformational Finance Systems project. News UK is in the process of investing in and transforming our Finance Systems landscape. We will not only be moving our core ERP system to S/4 HANA, but also implementing new additional systems including those for Procurement, Contingent Workforce and various other activities.

As Data Migration Analyst, you will be responsible for planning, executing, and overseeing the migration of data from existing systems to SAP platforms. Your role is pivotal in ensuring data accuracy, completeness, and consistency to support business operations and decision-making, as part of our Finance Transformation project.

Day to day you will:

  • Data Migration Strategy:

  • Develop and implement data migration strategies and methodologies to ensure a smooth transition to SAP systems.

  • Collaborate with project teams to understand the data migration requirements and business processes.

  • Data Mapping and Analysis:

  • Analyse data from legacy systems and map it to SAP data structures and formats.

  • Identify data quality issues, inconsistencies, and anomalies, and develop strategies to address them.

  • Data Extraction and Transformation:

  • Extract data from source systems and transform it to meet SAP data format and quality requirements.

  • Develop data conversion scripts and programs as necessary.

  • Data Load and Testing:

  • Lead the data loading and validation process to ensure data is correctly transferred to SAP systems.

  • Execute data migration tests, including data integrity, completeness, and performance tests.

  • Data Quality Assurance:

  • Implement data quality and data cleansing procedures to ensure data accuracy.

  • Develop and enforce data migration best practices to maintain data integrity.

  • Data Governance and Documentation:

  • Establish data governance policies and procedures to maintain data consistency and quality.

  • Document data migration processes, procedures, and issues for future reference and audit.

  • User Training and Support:

  • Provide training and support to end users to ensure they can work effectively with the newly migrated data in SAP systems.

  • Change Management:

  • Work closely with project managers to address any changes or adjustments required during the data migration process.

All colleagues will have to work together as a team, supported by leadership, to deliver this programme. This also means there may be times when everyone has to support other workstreams at peak load times.

What we’re looking for from you:

We’re looking for an experienced Data Migration Analyst, with a track record of delivering this capability within a large scale and complex programme, including:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • Proven experience in data migration projects, particularly within SAP environments.

  • In-depth knowledge of SAP data structures, modules, and business processes.

  • Proficiency in data migration tools and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams.

  • SAP certification is a plus.

  • Be extremely proactive and be prepared to ‘lean into’ challenges and challenging situations when they arise

  • A proactivity to be curious; pre-empt issues, challenge, ask the right questions and propose solutions rather than wait for questions

  • Be able to cut through complexity and get to the ‘so what?’, enabling effective communication to senior leadership and providing clear, polished, and concise outputs

  • Calmness under pressure and an expert ability in problem solving under ambiguity

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with effective time management and prioritisation
