Economics team is at the forefront of providing policy, economic and supporting technical and scientific advice on the development and implementation of national and international environmental policy, as well as formulating strategic responses to policy in the private sector. We provide consultancy services for national Governments, European Union institutions, international organisations (e.g. the United Nations and World Bank), industry associations and major global companies. We have a reputation for robust and impartial analysis, meaning that our projects directly influence the development and improvement of environmental, economic, social and health outcomes in the UK, EU and worldwide.

This role is intended to support ongoing growth in our European environmental policy and economics business. The role will involve working on projects focused on one or more of the following policy areas: water, hazardous chemicals, industrial emissions, air quality, natural capital and ecosystem services, climate change, waste and resources, as well as related ad-hoc specialist areas. We are looking for experience in one or more of these areas and you will be joining the business at an exciting time, with a strong forward workload, and an ambitious strategy for growth.

The role requires proven experience in applying economic theory and socio-economic techniques to environmental and other policies at national and/or international level, including cost-benefit and cost effectiveness analysis; ex-post evaluation; impact assessment; valuation of human health and social and environmental effects of policies; and assessing economic competitiveness.

Essential Skills:

  • A proven track record of overseeing, managing and delivering socio-economic projects concerning national and/or international environmental, health and/or safety policy (preferably in a consultancy context). An ability to deliver excellent quality work to clients while remaining commercially-focused

  • Mathematical / quantitative analysis, data / statistical modelling skills

  • Analytical / economic techniques such as: survey design and execution; market analysis; socio-economic analysis; regulatory impact assessment

  • Familiarity with national and international sources of government and business statistics

  • Demonstrable experience in standard techniques in policy development and implementation, including evaluation of technical / policy measures; cost-benefit analysis; data collection, validation and analysis; and stakeholder consultation

  • A proven track record of developing professional networks, securing new business and delivering successful commercial proposals (for senior consultant grade)

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to write clear and concise reports in English

  • Organisation, initiative and the ability to plan your work and adhere to fixed deadlines

Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate degree in economics or a closely related discipline. A focus on microeconomics and/or economics for public policy is an advantage

  • A postgraduate qualification in economics or one of the following in addition to undergraduate degree in economics: environmental science / technology, engineering, law or policy
