What Is the Opportunity?

We’ve got big ambitions here at Travelers! We’re growing our Portfolio Solutions and Property Binders business and, to support that growth, we’re looking for an Underwriter to join the team.

This isn’t your typical underwriting role. You’ll be underwriting and processing new business, renewals and mid term adjustments, but you’ll also be responsible analysing data for our Portfolio Solutions and binders business. You’ll have excellent analytical skills and be able to use your previous underwriting or actuarial experience to understand the data and make informed proposals and decisions.

Travelers Europe currently offers flexibility to employees who wish to work on a hybrid basis in accordance with our Hybrid Work Arrangements Policy. This entails full time employees working three days a week in the office and two days at home (or pro rata for part-time employees). This policy may be changed at the Company’s discretion.

This role is eligible for a £2500 new joiner bonus. If you are successfully referred by an employee at Travelers Europe, both you and the person who referred you could be eligible for this bonus.

What Will You Do?

  • Analyse and review underwriting plans- liaising regularly between insurers, brokers and MGAs in the development of our underwriting strategy and portfolio management.

  • Support the overall profitability, growth and retention of Portfolio Solutions and Property Binders and consistency of all related underwriting initiatives.

  • Develop strong relationships with our key supporting brokers and customers. Attend meetings -both formal and ad hoc -and produce or provide inputs to those meetings as required.

  • Support proposition development and implementation for both new and existing binders

  • Analyse data and provide key findings and recommendations to ensure that business is written in accordance with the Company's policies, procedures and controls at all times and adheres to regulatory Underwriting Management Standards.

  • Support the development of Portfolio Solutions and services such as researching and identifying target business, competitor information, industry and economic factors across the business.

  • Support in areas where a consistent approach to Portfolio solutions underwriting best practice needs designing and implementing. Liaise across the organisation to develop best practice and a systematic approach to portfolio underwriting eg. underwriting peer review, training and development frameworks.

  • Work closely with the business teams and cross functional colleagues to develop new business as well as to understand portfolio performance impacts to Travelers. To provide insight into areas of improvement and opportunities to improve the portfolio.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • Proven ability to underwrite at a Portfolio level with existing market relationships

  • Property lines of business knowledge would be an advantage. Eg, Property, Energy etc.

  • Strong relationship management skills with the ability to successfully negotiate in difficult situations.

  • Ability to analyse complex data and derive actionable insights

  • Clear and effective communication with internal teams, insurers and brokers.

  • Precision in reviewing and processing underwriting documents.

  • Strong working knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint

What is a Must Have?

  • Experience within the Delegated or Portfolio Solutions market

  • Secondary level education or equivalent required.
