The University of Miami UHealth System is currently seeking a Director of Oncology Social Work to work at Sylvester Cancer Center in Miami. The Director of Oncology Social Work is a pivotal leadership role within our healthcare organization, responsible for overseeing and enhancing the provision of comprehensive social work services to oncology patients and their families. This role combines clinical expertise, program management, and strategic direction to ensure the highest standard of psychosocial care for individuals affected by cancer. The Director collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams, leads a dedicated group of oncology social workers, and contributes to the advancement of patient-centered support services.

Key Responsibilities:

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Oversees staff engaged in human development, youth and family rehabilitative services, child care, and community services. 2. Develops and defines departmental and divisional goals and objectives. 3. Convenes meetings with key departmental personnel to discuss major operating problems, program accomplishments, status of expenditures in various funding categories, and related management considerations.4. Directs planning and research activities and meets with planning staff and program coordinators to identify long- and short-range issues.5. Participates in the development of recommendations for new programs, revises organizational patterns or improvements in existing programs, and consults with staff to formulate final plans. 6. Directs the development of budget proposals for operations, consults with senior management on projected organizational plans and financial needs, and makes recommendations for improvement.7. Represents the department in various conferences and meetings and serves on committee of national groups and organizations to further professional management or social service objectives and interests. 8. Directs detailed research into federal and state funding sources for social services and supervises the preparation of grant proposals for funds to support new and improved sources for clients.9. Makes decisions regarding recruitment, discipline, and promotion of subordinates, and reviews performance reports and rates performance. 10. Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

Leadership and Program Development:

• Provide visionary leadership to the oncology social work department, setting strategic goals, and fostering an environment of compassion, empathy, and professionalism.

• Develop, implement, and evaluate innovative programs and initiatives to address the diverse psychosocial needs of oncology patients and their families.

• Collaborate with hospital administration, oncology teams, and community partners to integrate social work services seamlessly into the overall patient care continuum.

  Clinical Supervision and Support:

• Supervise and mentor a team of oncology social workers, ensuring high-quality and culturally competent patient care.

• Provide guidance on complex cases, ethical dilemmas, and challenging patient situations.

• Conduct regular case conferences, peer reviews, and continuous professional development opportunities for the social work team.

  Patient and Family Advocacy:

• Serve as an advocate for the psychosocial well-being of oncology patients and their families, ensuring their voices are heard, and their needs are addressed throughout their cancer journey.

• Collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare teams to develop comprehensive care plans that address emotional, financial, and practical concerns.

  Collaborative Care Coordination:

• Work closely with oncologists, nurses, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to provide holistic patient care, integrating psychosocial support seamlessly into medical treatment plans.

• Facilitate communication and collaboration among team members to optimize patient outcomes and enhance quality of life.

  Education and Outreach:

• Develop and deliver educational programs, workshops, and materials to raise awareness about the importance of psychosocial support in oncology care.

• Engage in community outreach, partnerships, and initiatives to enhance access to oncology social work services and promote health equity.

  Data Analysis and Reporting:

• Collect, analyze, and report on key performance metrics to track the impact and effectiveness of oncology social work interventions.

• Use data-driven insights to continually improve program outcomes and patient satisfaction.

  Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited institution.

• Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) credential.

• Extensive experience in oncology social work, with a deep understanding of the psychosocial needs and challenges faced by cancer patients and their families.

• Proven leadership and managerial skills, with the ability to inspire and guide a team of professionals.

• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.

• Strong organizational abilities, with a demonstrated track record in program development, implementation, and evaluation.

• Proficiency in collaborating with diverse stakeholders and working within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.

• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
