JOB REQUIREMENTS: Position Overview The Director of Graduate Studies serves as the primary liaison and consultant for Master of Science and professional students regarding all aspects of their educational curriculum. This individual monitors and assists in guiding student progress, provides referrals to other university departments for services, engages students as necessary to meet their individual needs, provides counseling to students regarding other subsidiary programs (e.g., admissions requirements) offered by the university, and performs associated outreach functions to internal constituencies. The role of Director of Graduate Studies requires a combination of technical expertise in dental education, clinical practice, and research, as well as strong leadership and administrative skills to effectively manage and advance the graduate programs. This position is a full-time position with all applicable faculty responsibilities and privileges, and reports to the Dean of the School of Dentistry. Duties and Responsibilities Provides program-specific advisement to both post-graduate and master\'s degree-seeking students regarding course requirements and academic progress in collaboration with the residency specific directors/chairs; assures preparation of necessary documentation to assist students with degree completion in collaboration with assigned administrative support. With residency-specific directors, develops cohort specific action plans to achieve academic goals; evaluates transcripts to determine student eligibility to graduate and progress throughout program. Works in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs to ensure didactic educational curriculum is in sync with graduate programs and graduate school requirements. Attends all University Department of Graduate Studies meetings (monthly); meets individually with each graduate program director (monthly). Designs and updates the core curriculum for the Master of Science degree, ensuring alignment with industry standards and educational goals. Develops new courses or modifies existing ones to meet the evolving needs of the field. Addresses resident concerns, including Title IX, academic struggles, and disciplinary matters, and refers to appropriate University resources. Develops and revises appropriate policies and procedures and oversees the maintenance of MS program manual, research protocol forms, advising sheet, etc. Reviews/updates each on an annual basis. Provides guidance to students regarding the thesis process and graduate school requirements for thesis submission. Addresses human resource matters involving faculty, residents, and staff, coordinating efforts with chairs and School of Dentistry human resource liaison; mentors inexperienced graduate program directors with human resource matters. In collaboration with the Associate Dean for Finance and Administration, monitors annual budget issues with each program (clinical expenses, revenue) In collaboration with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, explores new graduate college joint degree options for graduate programs and DDS programs as opportunities arise... A current, valid dental license in the State of Wisconsin, or be eligible and obtain a regular den al license or faculty license in the State of Wisconsin by date of hire. Dental specialist or Master\'s or PhD degree in a related field. Previous dental teaching experience at the graduate level. A minimum of five (5) years of experience in dental education in an administrative and leadership role such as graduate program director, department chair, or assistant/associate dean. Experience with the accreditation process for graduate dental education programs. A deep commitment to dental education, program quality improvement, curriculum development, accreditation, and student success. The academic standing and professional experience needed to work with key faculty, committees, and graduate student constituencies. Significant experience in advising and with school/university administration. Strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills. The ability to manage and communicate effectively. Demonstrated attention to detail, professional attitude, and ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to work well independently and on a team. Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities A strong record of research and scholarship.
