Safety Net Counseling Services Behavior Consultant (Master's Level Degree) in Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania

Behavioral Health Rehabilitative Services-BHRS

Treatment Team will provide mental health services to those children/adolescents who have or are at risk of serious emotional disturbance or have been diagnosed as having a mental illness or severe behavioral disorders as identified by the school district and or the MH/MR Program through the Children's Interagency Team. Ages served are 4 years of age through 18, or 21.

Eligible children will present with symptomatology highly indicative of emotional or mental health problems, be identified as in need of intense individual therapy, behavioral modification to remain in school, and development of appropriate social skills to be acceptable within the school setting. These children may display an inability to learn because of the interference of the emotional disturbance or mental illness, have difficulty in interpersonal relationships with peers and figures of authority, engage in inappropriate behaviors or emotions during normal environmental circumstances, display consistently, a depressed and/or unhappy mood, and have excessive somatic complaints with no physiological basis.

Behavior Consultant (Master's Level Degree)

A master's level mental health professional. This individual will have a minimum of one year of clinical experience with children/adolescents and will provide observation, data collection, treatment recommendation, and review treatment plans for children/adolescents. This position will provide services on-site when requested and will be available for consultation with the school.

A Behavioral Consultant (BC) is available to travel to the school or community. Each Mobile Therapist maintains a schedule of Children to be seen and address as emergency situations as requested. The school district will continue to utilize the county MH/MR Program's identified system for emergency services for those situations which are clearly within the realm of necessity, and the Mobile Therapist will not be used to supplant the necessary crisis services. The Mobile Therapist will assist the school in identifying when these situations are present, should the school request such assistance.

Utilizing the above approach, the Behavioral Specialist Program will be emphasizing the individual child/adolescent's positive behaviors and strengths by developing behavioral plans that will enable them to be maintained in the regular classroom with peers and will be providing necessary treatment as well as providing support and consultation to the family unit and other BHRS staff included in the plan.

Behavioral Specialist services will also be provided to adolescents at the high school level on an individual basis and at the request of the school (with school permission), parents, or at the request of a referring outside agency. The school's social worker, psychologist or guidance counselor through their identified internal system of referral will identify students.
