Amazon Principal Engineer, AWS Billing, AWS Billing in New York, New York

Description

The AWS Commerce Platform provides the back and front-end services that enable AWS customers to purchase AWS services and understand and manage their infrastructure costs. Our team tackle some of the hardest scalability, performance, and distributed computing challenges the world. We process trillions of events per month using stream processing techniques, process billions of line items via map reduce, and manage artifacts through the latest in database technologies; DynamoDB and Aurora. We process big data and provide tools for customers to interactively understand their bills. We also provide the analytics that let customers manage billions of dollars of IT usage and spending. Because we sit at the nexus of all AWS services and interact directly with end-customers, we also work closely across all AWS teams to ensure that we offer a great customer experience. Our team within Commerce Platform is working on a set of Contract Automation and onboarding initiatives to streamline AWS Customer deal agreements creation and ingestion into our billing systems. We enable AWS Billing, AWS Sales and AWS Legal organization to sign contracts/deals with AWS customers faster, compute bills accurately, apply discounts and enhance customer experience overall.

Principal Engineers in the AWS are fundamentally passionate about designing scalable and resilient platforms, 219innovating and supporting new product architectures and business models, and doing so in a generalizable way that 220enables platform clients to innovate in ways we may not have foreseen. And as we solve these problems, we productize them, enabling external software developers and companies to take advantage of the scale and performance of the AWS cloud. You’ll think globally when building systems, ensuring we build high performing, scalable systems that fit well together. We are looking for pragmatic visionaries who can translate business needs into workable technology solutions. Your expertise is deep and broad; you’re hands on, producing both detailed technical work and high-level architectural designs.

A day in the life

As a Principal Engineer on our team, you will work with leaders across the Commerce Platform, AWS Legal and AWS Sales teams to define our business and architecture vision. You will balance technical leadership and savvy with strong business judgment to make the right decisions about technology choices. You will own the architecture, existing and future, for our platform components. You will share your updates with AWS leadership, get buy-in, and work with all stakeholder teams to maintain AWS’ status as industry leader. You will be the mentor for all engineers on the team, establish and demand best practices through your engineering leadership. You will immerse yourself in your team’s entire software development lifecycle to have a hands-on impact. You’ll strive for simplicity, and demonstrate significant creativity and high judgment.

Basic Qualifications

  • 10+ years of engineering experience

  • 5+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 10+ years of planning, designing, developing and delivering consumer software experience

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

  • Experience managing multiple concurrent programs, projects and development teams in an Agile environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience partnering with product and program management teams

  • Experience designing and developing large scale, high-traffic applications

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $176,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $342,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
