A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A YOUTH CARE COUNSELOR As a Youth Care Counselor, you have the rewarding job of providing direct care to the youth in our program. In this alternative to juvenile detention setting, you work with the youth to create routines, build positive relationships, and develop a framework for them after they leave our care. Acting as a mentor, you provide opportunities for social learning. This includes implementing coping mechanisms and building a positive foundation for each youth. Additionally, you conduct daily activities for the youth based on their developmental ages and capabilities. You perform behavior-shaping interventions, facilitate appropriate communications, model suitable problem solving, and help to ensure appropriate youth interactions. Using trauma-informed care (TIC)lens, you\'ll provide interventions for maladaptive behaviors resulting from trauma. Your empathy comes through in your interactions with each youth that you work with. You keep accurate records of daily activities and services provided in accordance with quality assurance and state licensing standards.
