JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Automatic Detection of Surface Deformation and Atmospheric Characteristics

A Postdoctoral Research position is available starting September 1, 2024, in the Department of Geosciences at The Pennsylvania State University. Our team is looking for a motivated postdoctoral scholar who is interested in studying and extracting surface displacements using radar satellite data with Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR). Successful applicants will have experience working with remote sensing or geodetic data, analysis of large datasets, coding, and high-performance computing. The successful scholar will have several opportunities for professional development, such as mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, interdisciplinary collaboration, design of new remote sensing laboratories using remote sensing data and machine learning, and project management. Travel support will be provided to present work at conferences and to work with our collaborators as needed.

The selected postdoctoral scholar will be based at Penn State under the mentoring of the project PI, Christelle Wauthier (Associate Professor of Geosciences, cuw25@psu.edu).

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in geodesy, remote sensing, computer sciences, geophysics, or a related field by the time of hire. Candidates should have strong mathematical and programming numerical skills. The candidate will be highly motivated and have a keen interest in geodetic processing and machine/deep learning approaches. Previous experience with geodetic datasets and AI computational methods is highly desirable.

Application review will begin immediately, and the position will remain open until a suitable candidate is identified. Interested applicants should upload the following as a single PDF: (i) a cover letter detailing scientific interests, qualifications, future goals, and availability, and (ii) a CV including contact information for three references and links to publications and manuscript drafts.

This is a term appointment funded for one year from the date of hire with the possibility to extend.
