The role of Business Development Director is integral to our central sales organization. This role specializes in the sale of advisory services, engineering, program management, solutions delivery, and other collaborative projects within the built environment. These projects involve Legence's business with Private Equity and Institutional Investor clients. As the primary relationship driver for the Private Equity and Institutional Investor focus, the Business Development Director will be dedicated to expanding Legence's business across its portfolio of capabilities. The responsibilities of the Business Development Director for REIT/Commercial Real Estate include:

  • Developing of strategy and standard sales processes and documentation for the Institutional Investor, Private Equity, and REIT/Commercial Real Estate Markets.

  • Providing ongoing support to Legence businesses for active opportunities as needed.

  • Validating and qualifying sales leads received from various business units.

  • Generating new opportunities with prospective customers.

  • Coordinating stakeholders within relevant business units to initiate and execute the sales process.

In addition to the above, the role’s responsibilities may evolve over time to include managing and mentoring direct reports, contributing to the strategic direction of the central sales team, and taking ownership of key processes.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the construction industry trends, competitive landscape, and market dynamics pertaining to the mission critical markets

  • Familiarity with advisory, engineering, program management, solutions delivery, and other projects in the built environment to effectively communicate and position Legence opportunities

  • Proven track record of successfully generating large complex deals

  • Demonstrated ability to identify and pursue new cross-business unit opportunities with net-new customers

  • Skill in qualifying sales leads received from various business units, evaluating their potential and alignment with Legence's offerings

  • Strong negotiation skills to navigate complex sales processes and close deals

  • Excellent interpersonal and written / verbal communication skills to effectively coordinate stakeholders within relevant business units

  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers to facilitate collaboration in the sales process

  • Strategic mindset to assess market opportunities, prioritize prospects, and align sales efforts with Legence's overall business strategy

  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams across business units, fostering a culture of cross-functional cooperation

  • Flexibility to adapt to evolving business needs, market conditions, and customer requirements

  • Strong problem-solving abilities to address challenges in the sales process and find innovative solutions

  • Ability to influence internal and external relationships without direct ownership

  • Goal-oriented with a focus on achieving and exceeding sales targets for complex deals

  • Proficient in documenting and reporting on sales processes, outcomes, and key performance indicators

  • Commitment to understanding customer needs and providing solutions that add value, ensuring customer satisfaction and long-term relationships

Travel Requirements:

  • Travel is an integral part of this role and will be based on business needs. This role is expected to travel approximately 25% of the year.

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • Minimum of 10-years’ experience in a similar business development role

  • A bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or related field is preferred, but not required
